American Acoustical Products wins National Science Foundation Grant.

The National Science Foundation in Arlington, Virginia has awarded the American Acoustical Products Division of Ward Process, Inc. $150,000 for support in the project "SBIR Phase I: Realizing Broadband Frequency Sound Absorption in Micro-Slit Panels." The project will be under the direction of Peter Jackson, Technical Director at American Acoustical Products.

The project Abstract explains, "The goal of the proposed work is to conduct measurement and numerical simulation studies aimed at improving the micro-slit panel (MSP) performance by varying the slit size and porosity across a panel, and by designing a substrate that can be placed behind the panel. It is anticipated that the developed MSP absorbers will replace foams and fibers in many commercial applications." Potential applications include ceiling deck panels in airports, train stations, bus terminals, and acoustical ducting in commercial buildings, as well as in the automotive industry.

American Acoustical Products is a leading manufacturer of extruded vibration damping and cast sound barrier composites for OEM and industrial noise control applications, including sound absorbing materials, sound barrier materials, thermal insulation materials, and vibration damping products.
